The chocolate producer Mars has ordered a massive recall of Mars, Snickers and Milky Way bars after plastic was found in a product.
The recall hits most countries of Europe, including Spain, France, Italy and the UK.
Milky Way Minis and Miniatures and certain boxes of Celebrations are also understood to be affected, including some sold in the UK and Germany.
"Mars Chocolate is carrying out a voluntary recall of chocolate products of Mars, Snickers, Milky Way and Celebrations after plastic was found in a product," the company said in a statement issued in Germany.
The products involved were made at a factory in the Netherlands and have best before dates from 19 June 2016 to 8 January 2017.
"With this recall, we would like to prevent consumers who have purchased one of the above-mentioned products from consuming it," said Mars.
The company has not confirmed how many chocolates are affected, what the recall will cost or if Tuesday's recall is the biggest ever in the company's history.
Consumers have been directed to the company’s website www.mars.de for a full list of products, but that website appears to have crashed, at least temporarily.
