Albufeira Council now has funding from the Municipal Emergency Fund to repair the damage left after severe flooding hit the city last November 1st.
An order published in the Official Gazette yesterday finally allows the municipality access to the fund and enables a spend of €798,000 and a reimbursement of €478,800 representing a 60% contribution from central government.
The work includes street repairs, roads and paths relaying, the rental of specialist equipment, and the repair of the escalators from Fisherman's Beach.
Repairing the downtown Avenida da Liberdade requires over €317,000 with the escalator repair costing over €200,000.
The funding decision, made by the Secretary of State for Local Government and the Secretary of State for the Budget, explains that Albufeira "suffered significant damage to its economic activity facilities, infrastructure, other property and equipment, following the storm on November 1, 2015."
The publication follows the acceptance by the Council of Ministers on 6 November last year, of the "exceptional weather conditions" that hit Albufeira.
That decision allowed the use of the Municipal Emergency Fund which was agreed on February 2nd this year.
There has been no funding for local traders but at least the council is OK.
