Conforama is taking over the old Moviflor showroom in Olhão this June as part of its aim to have ten stores in Portugal by 2017, according to the furniture and decoration company.
Conforama has an Algarve store in Albufeira and will hire 130 more workers for two new stores in Corroios and Olhão as it sees its market developing despite the forthcoming opening of Ikea near Loulé in 2017.
"The main objective of the company is to achieve first place in the sale of furniture and home furnishings in Portugal so it is very important to expand to new cities.”
The Moviflor chain of furniture stores ended its 40-year history with declared debts of around €130 million. The company founded by Catherine Remigio has assets of about €18 million but the closure of all outlets was announced on 1 October, 2014.
Over in Portimão, the Continente shopping centre has announced that a Fifty Factory store is opening, the fifth in Portugal and part of the Cortefiel group.
Located on the 1st floor and with a total area of 350m2, the new store apparently has "a modern and attractive image to stand out from existing stores in the country."
Fifty Factory has been going nearly 20 years and offers stock from Cortefiel, Springfield, Pedro del Hierro and Women's Secret, which are described as "articles of innovative design, quality and up to 70% off the original prices."
