A 46-year-old Spanish woman was stopped and arrested at Faro airport yesterday for carrying over two kilos of cocaine.
The woman was detained by the Judicial Police on suspicion of drug trafficking and has been remanded in custody.
Police officers discovered 2.2 kilograms of cocaine in her luggage, hidden in two kitchen cutting boards.
The seized drugs are worth over €100,000, according to police estimates.
According to the prosecutor, the woman arrived on a flight to Faro from Lisbon. The day before, she has arrived in Lisbon on a flight from Brazil.
Why she risked taking the drugs through Lisbon security again and on to Faro airport, rather than taking a train, has yet to be revealed.
