Electricity prices to rise yet again

edpAn average rise of 2.8% in the nation’s electricity bills translates into an increase of €1.21 per month for an 'average' bill of about €46.5.

The electricity bill for domestic consumers is to rise as soon as January 2014, according to the Energy Services Regulatory Authority.

In its statement, the authority confirmed the rise in the transitional electricity rates for consumers who are on the regulated tariff, which it had warned about in October.

It has also confirmed the proposed 1% increase in the social tariff, an increase which represents an increase of 23 cents a monthly invoice for €23.50.

Neither these average figures have VAT added and if anyone knows of a customer whose bill is €46 or less please write in.

The social tariff is for those on income support, the elderly in receipt of a ‘solidarity supplement,’ the unemployed on benefits, and those receiving some form of child benefit or social disability pension.

It has long been planned that EDP's prices will rise in order to encourage customers to sign up with one of the deregulated suppliers which allegedly are less expensive.
