A GNR officer was found dead in the early hours of Friday at the GNR station in Tavira.
The young man, 25, used his own service weapon to shoot himself at between 06.00 and 07.00am when he was alone at the station.
Born in Viseu, the officer had been posted to the Algarve about two years ago. There was no suicide note and his colleagues offered no explanation as to why he took this step. Thge officer was said to have been very close to his grandmother who died recently but had seemed to be a good officer and keen to progress his career.
The officer’s colleagues found his body. They had been ringing the station doorbell and were surprised that no one opened it. When they got into the service area they found his body.
