There will be few complaints from sun-worshippers across the Algarve as the temperature readings on Monday soared past 40°C with thermometers on the eastern Algarve's coastline registering 44°C in the afternoon.
The coast was cooler than the inland parts of the Algarve so those enjoying the summer in the countryside added two or three degrees as record-breaking averages are close to being exceeded.
The sea water temperatures are of course lower at between 18°C and 22°C (west to east) but rising through the week.
Night-time temperature predictions are for mid-20s.
Accuweather gave Moday's high as 37°C in the Faro area with a welcome drop to a more tolerable low 30s for the rest of the week.
