The first concert in the Loulé Summer series was held last night at the Duarte Pacheco monument venue where the internationally acclaimed fado singer Mariza electrified the audience.
Against a backdrop of a lightning storm sweeping across Faro in the near distance, Mariza’s vocal range was put to the test by a series of Fado songs, traditional and modern, including a duet with Nuno Guerreiro who happened to be in the front row of the audience and was invited on stage.
The packed Loulé audience of Portuguese and an encouraging number of foreigners, had no shyness in joining in as the singer performed for over two hours.
This was the only Algarve concert on Mariza’s current tour schedule which sees her heading next to Cascais for August 26th and then on to London, followed by a US tour to Boston, New York, New Jersey, Amherst, New Bedford, Fairfield and San Francisco at the end of October.
Another artist invited onto the stage was soul singer Luís Caeiro who joined the fadista in a duet, to the delight of the audience.
The Loulé Summer series of August concerts continues with a free concert in Quarteira this coming Saturday 20th with the Orquestra do Algarve and the fado singer Katia Guerreiro.
