Seven floundering French tourists were rescued after their boat turned over in the waves not far from an isolated shore near Caneiros beach, Ferragudo.
The tourists were rescued by the Ferragudo lifeboat service with the help of two lifeguards after the seven metre inflatable was caught in rough surf and started to sink.
The incident happened around 19:00 on Saturday off a beach near the popular Caneiros beach, but one with no access from the land.
As the boat got near to the beach, it was caught in the waves and the four men and three women on board were thrown into the water.
"We were visiting the coast and were picked up by the waves, but we are well," said one of the relived victims.
The warning was given by the two lifeguards on duty at Caneiros beach who later assisted in the rescue.
The floundering French tourists, according to the commander of the Port of Portimão, Pereira Santos, were landed with the use of "a private jet ski commandeered by one of the lifeboat crew."
