One person died at the scene and six were hospitalised with serious injuries after two cars collided just after 02:00 on Saturday morning on the EN125 near Tavira.
According to a report from the rescue operation district command (CDOS) in Faro, "six people were assisted on site by emergency ambulance personnel and taken to Faro hospital."
The man who died was 51-years-old.
The collision took place at Sítio da Caiana in the parish of Conceição, Tavira and the police now are determining what happened and whether charges will be brought. EN125 traffic was diverted for about three hours.
