Kate and Gerry McCann fly into Lisbon this weekend in preparation for a 09.30 start in the number 1. Civil Court in the 'McCann v Amaral' case.
The McCanns are suing Gonçalo Amaral, a former Inspector from the Criminal Investigation Department of the Judicial Police in Portimão, for €1.2 million.
Isabel Duarte, the McCann’s lawyer, today confirmed that both of the Madeleine McCann's parents will be appearing in court as the trial restarts.
The trial was suspended last October as the presiding judge asked each party to go away and try and sort out an out-of-court settlement but the McCanns believe that their rights have been violated and have stuck to their claim for damages.
Gonçalo Amaral was in charge of the Madeleine McCann investigation from May 3, 2007 when she went missing. Amaral later was removed from this post and is no longer in the police service.
In Amaral’s book ‘Maddie: The Truth of the Lie’ the former Inspector alleges Kate and Gerry McCann somehow were involved in the child's disappearance and the concealment of her body. This, the McCanns took exception to.
