Residents demand answers after mobile network infrastructure appears without consultation

Residents demand answers after mobile network infrastructure appears without consultationConstruction has already started on a 30m 5G Cell Phone Tower on Cerro de Alfeicao, East of Loule transforming the landscape and causing great concern to residents.

Locals who live in the area have been left outraged after construction workers arrived without warning to install a 5G mobile phone mast in their community. The construction has sparked widespread concern among residents, who claim they were not consulted about the installation.

This beautiful location overlooking Loule is a popular viewing spot for all the community, but this environment will be changed forever by the planned 30m high mast. The Alfeiçao windmill.

There were no consultations, no letters, nothing. It’s just been forced upon us.  We should have been informed, especially when it’s something that could affect our homes, our health, and even property values. The landscape surrounding the windmill is being desecrated, and the visual impact will be immense.

Residents feel that there has been a total lack of transparency in the decision-making process to allow construction of the mast in this location. Residents are now considering forming a community action group, to challenge the development and they have started a petition to oppose the construction.  However, time is of an essence as work has already started.  We would appreciate your support in the opposition of this construction and to bring it to the attention of other Algarvian residents.

We have issued letters of complaint to the Camara and have had a meeting on site with the President of Sao Sebastiao (Analídio Ponte), but we have received no response. We have also set up a Peticao Publica for people to support us against the desecration of the windmill due to the erection of the 5G Tower.

We understood that this land was protected and with no building work allowed near the Alfeiçao windmill.

All the adjacent property owners are adamant that this work is not necessary for our community, and that it will cause a lot of distress. Most of the properties on our hill have fibre optic internet provided by Lazer or Starlink, so there is no basis for this service and the mobile network is just perfect.

We are determined to stop the desecration of the windmill for the local residents, as well as for Loule residents who have viewed this windmill for hundreds of years.
