AGF Aarhus football club from Denmark currently plays in the top tier of the Danish football league system, the Danish Superliga, and finished 5th in the 2011-12 season. The squad travelled to Portugal to compete in the Altantic Trophy 2013 against IF Elfsborg, FC Mitdjlland, Helsingborg IF, SC Farense & Aalborg. Manager Peter Sørensen brought the team to the Amendoeira Golf Resort from 9th to 20th February where they stayed and combined intensive training session on the full sized, natural grass pitch at the resort's Amendoeira Sports Club with the Altantic Trophy fixtures.
The squad included captain Steffen Rasmussen, goal keeper Emil Ousager, mid fielder Martin Jørgnsen and forward Søren Larsen. In addition, Oliver Sigurjónsson joined the team as one of three U19 players participating in training camp, and the 17-year-old Icelander was determined to assert himself with a view to getting close to a place in the league squad.
The first match in the Atlantic Trophy was against Swedish champions IF Elfsborg on 11th February. The Swedes proved to be the better team and won 1-0 although Sørensen was still more than happy with his team's performance in this match.
On 15th February, AGF Aarhus met the Swedish team Helsinborg IF and were victorious with an impressive 4-1 result. Vatsadze, Kirkeskov, Skhirtladze and Larsen scored the goals and there were many promising performances.
The final match in the Atlantic Trophy was against SC Farense on Monday 18th February and resulted in a satisfying 2-0 victory for AGF Aarhus with Larsen scoring twice.
Overall AGF Aarhus finished as runner-ups in the Atlantic Trophy with 6 points, just one point behind winners FC Midtjylland.
The players stayed in luxury two bedroom apartments at the Amendoeira Golf Resort whilst the management and medical team shared three bedroom villas. The experience of the Oceânico team ensured that the training camp ran smoothly with regard to training, transfers, meals and accommodation.
Other sports teams who have hosted their training camp at the Amendoeira Sports Club include Reading FC, NEC Nijmegen, Queens Park Rangers FC, Aston Villa FC, the Republic of Ireland Senior Ladies football team, the Republic of Ireland U19s Men's football team, the Kerry footballers and Dublin Hurlers. A host of other professional teams have also trained on the pitch and many friendly matches have been held there.
In addition to the full size, natural grass pitch, the Amendoeira Sports Club boasts two 5-a-side football pitches, a well equipped gymnasium, six tennis courts, and sports bar. The on-site golf courses comprise the Oceânico Faldo Course designed by Sir Nick Faldo, the Oceânico O'Connor Jnr. course designed by Christy O'Connor Jnr., and the 9 hole, par 3 Oceânico Academy course. Professional warm weather training packages are available for football, Gaelic football and hurling and include transfers, accommodation, training and meals. Luxury accommodation is provided in spacious two bedroom apartments and three bedroom villas: the two bedroom apartments are situated in private village complexes with large communal swimming pools and the villas have their own pools.
Sportsmen meals are served at the impressive clubhouse which overlooks the golf courses.
Oceânico creates tailor-made training packages and can also arrange off-site excursions and team building activities.
