The World Youth Sailing ISAF is about to begin in Tavira, which runs between 12 and 19 July in Algarve waters. About 400 sailors from 69 countries will attend the event, a record number of participants, in the 44th edition of this event.
It is the 5th time Portugal has hosted the World Youth Sailing ISAF. After Troy (1973), Sines (1981), Vilamoura (1992) and Wood (2003), it is now the turn of Tavira to host one of the most prestigious events of the International Sailing Federation.
The young sailors will compete in eight classes: Male Laser Radial, Laser Radial female, 420 male, 420 female, SL16, 29er, RS: X men's and RS: X female. Why Portugal will be represented in all except the RS: X female.
The national team consists of Sampaio Santiago (Male Laser Radial), Caroline John (Laser Radial female), Diogo Pereira / Manuel Macedo (420 male), Teresa Camel / Helena Oliveira (420 female), Vasco Rocha / Salvador Taveira (SL16) Francisco Maia / Rui Oliveira (29er) and Frederico Rodrigues (RS: X).
The Opening Ceremony of the World Youth Sailing ISAF - Tavira 2014 is scheduled for Sunday, July 13 at 20:00hr, at the Republic Square in Tavira.
The first race is scheduled for 13:00hr on Monday, July 14.
