These awards aim to identify and award personalities that stood out in the tourism sector during 2015. Chitra has been awarded this prize for the results achieved with the brand “Martinhal” and for the expansion of the brand into 3 new locations in Portugal.
Martinhal Beach Resort & Hotel in Sagres is in its 5th year of operation since its opening in 2010. In these years, Martinhal has been exceeding expectations as a hotel and resort in a remote destination as far as Portugal is concerned. With its closing of 2015 with Euros 17.5 million turnover, it has clearly established itself as one of the key players in the hotel industry in Portugal. Chitra Stern was awarded one of 12 awards of the evening gala event at beautiful Tivoli Teatro on Avenida Liberdade in Lisbon. Chitra feels proud to be honoured amongst the “giants” in the Portuguese tourism, travel and hotel industry: giants like the ex-Secretary of State of Tourism, Adolfo Mesquite Nunes who won an award for “Manager of the Year in the Public Sector” for his work implemented in achieving new ways of marketing Portugal as a destination between 2013 and 2015, especially in the area of digital marketing of Portugal; and Antonio Trindade of Porto Bay Hotels who won the “Hotelier Manager of the Year” for the quality achieved as a Portuguese chain of 12 hotels and for the international expansion of this chain.
“I wasn’t expecting to win this award, especially as a foreign investor! It was an honour enough to be nominated alongside such stalwarts in the industry. Obviously, I share this award with my business partner, and husband, Roman Stern! We take this recognition seriously and will continue to try to exceed expectations with our future development of this brand, and to make a positive difference in Portuguese tourism” she said.
