Sagres Nature Festival 2024 promises unforgettable experience this October. Four days of immersion in nature, with activities for all ages, is what the Birdwatching & Nature Activities Festival promises from 3rd to 6th October in Sagres, Algarve. Registration opens on 1st August.
This annual event, which has become a reference in the calendar of outdoor enthusiasts, will take place in the friendly village of Sagres, in the Portuguese region of Algarve, where the rich biodiversity provides the perfect setting for birdwatching and other activities in contact with nature.
A celebration of nature
As well as a variety of birdwatching sessions on land and at sea, this festival offers a variety of opportunities for nature lovers to discover that the Algarve is much more than just beaches. There's also plenty of choice for birdwatchers' families and friends, such as walks, hikes, talks and challenges for the younger ones.
This year's star
This year the Festival's headliner is the Booted Eagle, named after the feathers that cover its legs. This medium-sized bird of prey is seen mainly in flight and can be identified by its "landing lights": white spots on the sides of its neck, facing forwards, like the landing lights of an aeroplane. A curious aspect of this species is that it comes in two forms: light and dark, depending on the colour of the breast and underside of the wings. A migratory species, it visits Portugal mainly in spring and summer, although some individuals overwinter in the country. During migration, Booted Eagles often appear near the coast, and one of the best places to spot them is in the Sagres region, where, when the wind blows from the east, they gather by the dozens.
Programme and registration
The programme and registration will be available on the festival's website from 1st August. Until then, the most important thing is to mark your diary and secure accommodation in the area.
The 15th edition of the Festival is once again organised by Vila do Bispo Town Council, in partnership with SPEA and Almargem, and offers four days packed with activities for all tastes.
