The Ferragudo lifeboat crew has been called out to rescue an 18-year-old swimmer who clearly was losing his struggle to stay afloat.
The man was spotted in the sea off Caneiros, Lagoa, near the cliff and the alert was raised.
The lifeboat crew managed to haul the man from the water: he was still conscious but exhausted and close to drowning. The young man was taken to an INEM ambulance near the lifeguard station while Maritime Police officers accompanied and calmed a family member.
The alert was received by the Portimão Maritime Police at around 13:30 on Thursday and the lifeboat was launched, while the Maritime Police went to the cliff-top.
The waves were at a height of 2.5 metres, presenting a tricky rescue operation and the authorities warned that beaches currently are unattended, so swimming should be carried out with redoubled care, in fact they should be avoided.”
