Court frees Scottish woman suspected of burying her husband

GuardaBodyThe court in Celorico da Beira, Guarda district, has free a Scottish woman whose husband’s body was found buried on their property near Celorico da Beira, Beja but said she must report to the police station at regular intervals until her trial.

The 46-year-old woman was detained last Thursday by the Judicial Police who suspect her of burying her husband's corpse on land at the rural property.

The police say that a corpse, "believed to be that of a 59-year-old Scotsman, was found and exhumed that afternoon on a farm by members of the Guarda police and a forensic team which will help in determining the cause of death.

The woman was in court to be tried, but her lawyer, Andreia Fonseca, requested a delay so a proper defense can be prepared. The trial has been postponed to February 27th.

The detainee arrived at the courthouse at 11:10 and left at about 18:30, after lengthy questioning.

According to information from the court clerk of Celorico da Beira, the detainee was released but now is subject to "a periodic presentation at the GNR station until her court date."

Lawyer, Andreia Fonseca told reporters that she welcomed the court's decision to allow her client to go free until her trial date.
