Lagoa council welcomes all things Chinese

china2The Mayor of Lagoa, Francisco Martins, and many of the city's councillors, welcomed a delegation from the Chinese embassy which included the ambassadors Cai Run and Wu Jun and the cultural attaché for education and policy.

Martins gave a talk on the history of the municipality, with special emphasis on the culture of Lagoa’s people and highlighted the contribution that the Chinese community makes to local life and culture with many Chinese children now attending local schools.

There will be a Chinese cultural show in Lagoa in July, the theme will be ‘the Silk Road’ with a photographic exhibition, gastronomic events, musical shows and Chinese handicrafts, with more initiatives scheduled throughout the year to include Chinese music groups and an exhibition on traditional Chinese musical instruments.

Francisco Martins said he is "always available for any partnership that brings added value to the municipality of Lagoa," not mentioning the current development controversy where the mayor’s current ‘to do’ list includes covering the famous Lagoa wetland bird area with a supermarket, adding to the city's impressive total.
