One of the fishermen who went missing from the Alqueva reservoir on Sunday has been found. The second is still missing
The authorities resumed the search for the two fishermen on Monday morning after the fishermen’s disappearance was reported on Sunday afternoon.
Diving teams looking for the men, who are said to be between 45 and 50-years-old, started by concentrating in the area they last had been seen, to no avail on Sunday, but today one of the men was found floating in the vast expanse of water of Portugal’s largest reservoir.
Their boat has been found, washed up on the shoreline but there is no sign of the second man.
Bombeiros diving experts from Portel, Reguengos de Monsaraz, Évora, Arraiolos plus GNR personnel, have been searching throughout the day but there is little hope the missing man will be found alive.
The alert was given on Sunday afternoon by a man who was fishing from a boat in the same area, near São Marcos do Campo, in the municipality of Reguengos de Monsaraz.
This fisherman noticed the two men and their boat suddenly were not where they had been a moment ago.
