Supermarket group, Intermarché, is launching an adopt-a-pet scheme and a voucher suystem for local animal adoption centres.
The AmigaMe Animal Adoption section of the group’s website aims to support animal adoption institutions nationwide and allows potential owners to look at pictures of the animals online before choosing one.
The scheme has just started and already lists over 100 potential pets for adoption.
Another of the objectives of the Amigame site is to provide Intermarché vouchers for €5 to €25 that shoppers can buy, thus enabling food donation to be made by Intermarché to their local animal support associations.
The value of the coupons is allocated monthly to the associations in the form of food, accessories and other goods needed by the registered associations.
Animal welfare institutions should apply to join the scheme and, once registered, can share information regarding animals they have for adoption.
Mathieu Descoubès, marketing manager of Intermarché, said that the company wants to help local animal institutions find a new home for these animals and to help people have the chance to have a companion animal from a nearby adoption centre.
