The Portuguese weather service has issued an update on a Category 2 cyclone, with an average wind speed of 175 kmph, that is heading to the Azores.
The archipelago will suffer from Hurricane Helene’s effects as from the end of Saturday September 15th.
This morning, the center of the hurricane was located south-southwest of the Portuguese islands and is expected to reach the archipelago on Saturday although with reduced intensity.
At 5 p.m., the centre of the storm was about 2,500 kilometres south-southwest of the islands, moving northwest at 12 mph.
This speed is expected to continue tonight with a turn toward the north-northwest on Wednesday.
From tomorrow, Wednesday, the intensity should begin to decrease and from late Thursday or early Friday, the hurricane should have been downgraded to a tropical storm by the time it reaches the Azores on Saturday.
