The national director of the PSP has announced that 15% of the public security police were infected with the new coronavirus and three police officers have died of covid-19.
In a presentation on the performance of the Public Security Police during the fight against the covid-19 pandemic, Magina da Silva stated that "the maximum peak of infections" happened on January 31st of this year, when 847 agents were infected and 1,400 were in prophylactic isolation.
According to national director, on October 22, 18 police are currently infected and 24 are in prophylactic isolation.
With 20,000 members of the security forces on the frontline, they are exposed to the risk of contagion. Since the covid-19 pandemic began, 2,949 police officers have been infected and three have died.
