During the brand's annual conference. yesterday, Facebook announced their name change. The social network itself will keep its original name, but the company that manages Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp will be renamed Meta.
The revelation was made by Mark Zuckerberg himself, “From now on, we will fundamentally be a company 'metaverse' and not Facebook in the first place,” said the CEO.
Deep down, Zuckerberg wants to show the world that the company is more than the social network. “Facebook is one of the most used products in the world. But increasingly, it doesn't cover everything we do. Currently, our brand is so linked to a product that it cannot represent everything we do”, justified the businessman.
“The new name is to reflect who we are and what we hope to build,” added Zuckerberg.
The decision appears, however, to be the just first response to the "Facebook Papers" case, an investigation that is shaking Mark Zuckerberg's empire by revealing thousands of internal documents leaked by former employee and whistleblower Frances Haugen.
