Starting yesterday, May 4th and until May 10th, the GNR will carry out a roadside alcohol and drug operation, with the aim of promoting safer behaviour of drivers and reducing serious road accidents.
It will be an intensive inspection operation of drivers under the influence of alcohol and psychotropic substances, to be carried out throughout the mainland.
In 2021, in a similar campaign, 20589 drivers inspected by the GNR during one week had a higher alcohol rate than allowed by law.
Due to the effect that alcoholic beverages and psychotropic substances have on consumers, they can have a stimulant or depressant effect, which impairs the psychophysiological abilities to drive, even if consumed in small quantities, significantly increasing the risk of involvement in road accidents.
