An 80 year old man was rescued from the water yesterday afternoon, after going in to cardiac arrest while swimming at Praia Vau, in Portimão.
The victim was pulled out of the water by people nearby when he showed signs of feeling ill.
Members of the “SeaWatch” Project, part of the National Maritime Authority, raised the alarm at 15:28, calling the emergency services.
The “SeaWatch” team, in collaboration with two nurses who were on site, started resuscitation using oxygen therapy, until the Volunteer Firefighters arrived from Portimão.
The victim recovered vital signs and was transported from the beach using a vehicle from the “SeaWatch” Project, where an ambulance from the Portimão Volunteer Firefighters was waiting. The man was transported to hospital for continued assessment and treatment.
