The Municipality of Olhão is in the process of replacing traditional public lighting with LED technology, to make the municipality more efficient and sustainable from an energy point of view.
The plan is that all public lighting in the area will work with LED technology within three years.
“This strategy has allowed for the replacement of 1,500 bulbs in 2022, namely on the EN125, west of the city, and on Avenida 5 de Outubro, between Avenida D. João VI and the marina”, says the municipality of Olhão in a statement.
“These interventions carried out in the first half of this year alone represent an annual reduction in CO2 production in the order of around 200 tons, with a saving of 45 thousand euros in the municipal budget."
There has also been a parallel investment, in that some areas have an intelligent management system which not only allows improved efficiency in terms of consumption, but also allows remote control of faults, as well as to switch lighting on and off.
