Diogo Viegas, from the Algarve Dance Academy, was the winner of the Portuguese competition of Red Bull Dance Your Style 2023 in Portimão, securing him a place in the world championships.
Diogo, aged 22, won the competition that featured 16 finalists in successive one-on-one battles, in a vibrant arena with a large audience.
In an emotional final, Diogo managed to win the cup, leaving him now with the responsibility of defending Portugal's name in the world final of the biggest international Street Dance competition in the world, to take place on the 4th of November, in Frankfurt, Germany.
In the competition, Diogo Viegas will have the enormous challenge of facing, in one-to-one battles, those who are considered the world's cream of Street Dance dancers, with just one objective: to bring the title of world champion to Portugal.
The young Algarve man managed to achieve another great feat in his career - the possibility of heading to the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, USA, in the Breaking style, which the Algarve Dance Academy “has no doubt he will achieve ”.
The Algarve Dance Academy was established in 2007, and has trained thousands of young dancers with a strong component in urban dances. Currently with around 335 dancers, it has classes in Tavira, Olhão, Faro, Loulé, Almancil and Quarteira.
In addition to specific training in Faro and Olhão for the styles of Hip Hop, Dancehall, House, Breaking, Waacking and Contemporary, ADA has created competition teams, in several national and international championships (Spain, Netherlands, France and others), obtaining very important classifications.
There are currently 4 competing teams: Sparks Kids, Mega Sparks Jr, Mega Sparks and Phoenix Flame, involving a total of 40 dancers.
As a result of their strong commitment to competitive dynamics, the “Sparks” team is the only Algarve team that has already represented Portugal in the World Urban Dance Championship, the HHI Hip-Hop International, held annually in August, in Phoenix (Arizona). – USA), in the United States of America.
