Albufeira hotel room burglar caught

albufeira2A man who dressed and acted like a tourist in order to get into hotel rooms and steal valuables has been arrested by the GNR.

Having nabbed the man who targeted hotels in and around Albufeira, GNR officers got four more names of men who now are wanted for robbery.

The arrested man dressed like any other tourist and causally entered hotels, sauntering past reception and on to guests’ rooms where he helped himself to whatever looked to be of value, including watches, computer, handbags and cash.

During a search of the man’s property several computers, various watches, the requisite stash of hashish and 1.2 grams of marijuana were found, carefully noted and will be presented in court.

The GNR said that many of the recovered objects can be returned to owners as the thefts were reported at the time.

The Command of the GNR said that he believes the man is "responsible for many other offenses, using the same modus operandi,  that have been reported in the area in recent month.”

Meanwhile over in Portimão the police have caught and arrested a 31-year old Portuguese man on suspicion of several robberies in the city.

The police said they had been looking for this man since July this year in connection with thefts on the streets of Portimão, usually stealing from elderly residents one of which was ‘compelled to do acts of a sexual nature’-  she was in her 80s.

The PSP ensures that, 'since the first recorded case, immediately research efforts, permanently been developed and involving a large number of police officers - given the seriousness of the facts - in order to achieve the identification of the suspect and prevent recurrence these cases. '

The police threw plenty of resources at the investigation but it was hampered by the fact that victims could not give an accurate description.
