Lagoa GNR officers were called to a shop in Parchal, Lagoa to tackle a man over a suspected shoplifting incident only to find he was subject to an International Arrest Warrant.
The foreign citizen, 48, was detained while the GNR checked his details which triggered an alert that the suspect had been wanted since March on charges of theft and drug dealing back in his home country.
"During a GNR patrol action, officers were alerted to an attempted theft inside a shopping centre. Upon arrival, the patrol found that the foreigner had left the store without paying for items including some food,” explained GNR command, in its inimitable style.
After the officers checked the man out via the Schengen area database for bad asses, they found that the man was subject to an international warrant for his arrest and extradition.
The man will be sent home soon, but not until after his cameo appearance at the Évora Court of Appeal.
