Algarve healthcare to be debated in parliament this week

stethascopeHeathcare in the Algarve is just fine, according to those charged with managing the region’s hospitals and health centres but the Parliamentary Group of the Communist party has presented a draft resolution to Parliament outlining the dire reality.

This resolution will be debated and voted on later this week and includes a "dramatic portrayal of the degradation of primary health care in the Algarve” and presents a set of recommendations to the Government to ensure the provision of quality health care to the region’s population.

'Pandemonium' in Portugal's courts

dacruzThe Ministry of Justice released a bold statement today announcing that the computerised court case management system Citius now is working for new cases and that existing cases will be migrated "gradually."

Last week the Secretary of State for Justice promised a disaster progress report. Today the Institute for Financial Management and Equipment of Justice stated that "it is assured that starting today there will be full access to all features of the Citius platform that supports the activity of courts and new cases."

Football - Gibraltar boycotts Algarve stadium over security company treatment

gibraltarThe Gibraltar Football Association (GFA) has been using the Algarve’s white elephant stadium near Faro for its 'home' matches, but no longer as the degrading treatment of fans last week as Gibraltar lined up to play Poland has led to a boycott of the Algarve venue.

Louis Wink, the GFA’s Head of Integrity and Security, in an exclusive interview with Panorama - Gibraltar’s first newspaper on the web - has said that the Gibraltar Football Association were utterly appalled with the treatment last week by the Portuguese contracted security company on local supporters as they entered the stadium in Faro before Gibraltar played their Euro qualifying match with Poland.

Drinks company buys bargain palace in Faro

faropalaceThe achingly beautiful Belmarço Palace in Faro was left empty by the Portuguese government having abandoned its development plans years ago after wasting €250,000 of taxpayers’ money.

To add insult to injury the government now has sold the building to a drinks wholesaler for a further irretrievable loss.

Swimming beaches at Odeleite dam, ten year delay nearly over

The plan had been festering in an in-tray at the Ministry of Environment for a decade, according to former mayor Francisco Amaral.

Silves fixes landmark tower

A contract was awarded in March 2014 to a local company and it will cost over €70,000 to repair, modify and consolidate the tower.
