UK holidaymakers could pay up to a fifth less than last year in popular European sun destinations.

Lower prices can be expected in two-thirds of the European resorts surveyed for the eighth annual Post Office Travel Money Holiday Costs Barometer.

The Captain of the Port of Sines reported this afternoon that a man had disappeared in a rocky area at Almograve beach in an area where there was a lot of surf.  It was impossible to see below the waves and dangerous for rescue service personnel to enter the water.

The 47-year old disappeared on Friday afternoon and the Maritime Police and the Lifeboat service were soon looking for him but with no success.  He had entered the water while playing with a ball but never returned to the beach.

Just over half of the workers in Europe believe working conditions in their countries are good ones, but only one-third of Portuguese workers felt the same.

Only 32% of people in Portugal thought the country had good working environments, although some 50% said they felt their own personal situations were ok. This was among the lowest levels in the EU 28.

Faro court today issued a final decision in the long-running case of kidnap victim Ellie Silva whose safety and future has been at stake since her father kidnapped her and then applied for custody pending his trial.

The judge found 100% in favour of Candice Gannon, Ellie’s mother, and awarded her full custody of Ellie while confirming that Candice has done nothing wrong, that the kidnapping of Ellie was totally unjustifiable and ordered that Ellie should be raised by her mother in Ireland.
