The purpose of the public meeting scheduled for the 5th of April is to give voice to all those wishing to make statements as users of the Algarve’s healthcare system.
The Committee of Users of the National Health Service is leading the meeting at 15.00 at the Alameda de Portimão, "This initiative is intended to give voice to all the people who want to present their testimonies as users of the National Health Service, as well as exchange ideas, information and data" sais a commission spokesperson.
The commission will also reveal, "new proposals and initiatives to combat the destruction of the Algarve’s regional health service, particularly in hospitals, health centres and outposts across the Algarve."
The main problem area is the situation at the hospitals in the west of the region and their associated health centers and the commission emphasised that these services are the target of attacks that are causing the "obvious degradation" of patient care.
The commission’s recent petition gained 9,000 signatories from people in Portimão, Silves, Lagoa and Lagos council areas. A group of committee representatives was received by the parliamentary group for healthcare and soon the petition will be discussed in parliament, "in this hearing it was possible to show the many concerns about the operation, services and conditions in the hospitals in the western Algarve as well as to present various reports and testimonies from users of the public health system."
