Tavira police have arrested a 37 year old man for drug trafficking, in Santa Catarina da Fonte do Bispo, Tavira, after he was acting suspiciously when stopped during a road inspection operation.
In a statement, the security force said that the arrest occurred as part of a road inspection operation, where the officers, "upon approaching the driver, identified that he was in possession of a quantity of a narcotic product".
During the search, the GNR confirmed that the man was carrying 36 individual doses of cocaine, resulting in his arrest and the search of the vehicle. The vehicle was seized along with €340 euros in cash and a mobile phone.
As part of the ongoing investigation, a search was carried out at the detainee's home, where "more narcotics and other objects of criminal relevance" were found, namely: 208 doses of cocaine; 120 doses of hashish; two doses of marijuana; five rounds of ammunition; a mobile phone; 160 euros in cash, packaging bags and cutting material for individualizing the doses.
The detainee was brought before the Loulé Judicial Court, and was sentenced to appear weekly at the police station and received a ban on contact with individuals associated with drug use.
