Dead driver pursued for unpaid tolls

4812A driver who died two years ago is among 50 motorists that have been targeted by the tax office for serial non-payment of tolls on Portugal's formerly free motorways.

Jornal do Noticias revealed that 800 offenses have been logged against these die-hard toll evaders and that the tax office has lined them up for the maximum force collection process whereby their assets are to be seized and auctioned off to settle their debts.

Bank of Portugal describes ‘Bitcoin’ risks

Madrid seeks talks over Catalan referendum

New walking route opened along the Guadiana

The total walk is now 65 kilometers which adds to the Algarve’s 'nature tourism' appeal for hikers, a key off season tourist sector.

One of the three men currently reported missing in the Algarve has been found alive and well by Portimão police.

Keith Edward Newing, 69 - on holiday from Manchester - was reported missing on Thursday night from Alvor’s Pestana Delfim hotel.

A source from the GNR told us today (Saturday) that he was found “confused but otherwise well” in Portimão on Friday afternoon.

Mr Newing was found by police agents who had been on the lookout since his disappearance was reported.

The missing British tourist has been found alive and well by the police in Portimão.

Keith Edward Newing, a 69-year old visitor from Manchester went missing last Thursday night from the Pestana Delfim hotel in Alvor.

 

 

Portimão Urbis finally to be closed

portimaocamaraPortimão council today announced it has approved the winding up of the municipal company Portimão Urbis and now has 15 days to submit plans on the fate of the remaining 111 company employees.

The proposal for the dissolution of Portimão Urbis was presented by the president of the municipality, Isilda Gomes, and approved unanimously on Thursday at a meeting of the Chamber.
