Bedbugs attack Spain

The huge rise in infestations across the country has gone up by 70% in the last five years. Pest control experts say the problem is now bordering on an “epidemic”.

Early morning drug couriers nabbed in Moncarapacho

hashishacornThe GNR today announced the seizure of approximately 30 kilos of hashish pollen and the arrest of two men, one of whom is serving in the Portuguese Navy.

The drugs were being taken in a high-powered car to Lisbon from the Algarve but the dim-witted couriers chose to start their journey at 2.00am in the morning, immediately drawing the maximum attention to themselves.

Portugal's minimum wage stays at €485 a month

According to Eurostat data Portugal is in 18th place with an average wage of €1,000, behind even Greece and far from the average salary in Spain.

Foreign investors feed Portuguese property market

According to the company, referring to data taken from the latest Market Pulse survey, the investment volume recorded between January and March of €28 million was exclusively provided by foreign investors.

Press banned from Algarve Summer Security conference

Portimão council has enough money for two months only

Overall the council owes around €150 million and recently tried to borrow €94 million under the government's Programme to Support the Local Economy scheme.

New airlink between Portugal's north and south

airplane2Tras-os-Montes was connected to Lisbon by a regional airline a couple of years ago which helped people get around and saved time for those far northerners visiting the capital for business or pleasure. 

The route was scrapped as it could not be made to pay, but there is a new plan to link the north of Portugal to the south of the country, with stops in between - and government money to subside the service.

Albufeira - British woman stabbed ten times

albufeirabeachA British woman was stabbed at least ten times in the early hours of Thursday morning in the holiday resort of Albufeira.

The only suspect in the case is another Briton, aged 22, who was arrested at the scene will be up before the court late on Thursday.
