EDP's multi-millionaire boss earns 50 times his workers' average salary

edpIn an article published today in Proteste Investe, the consumer watchdog Deco reported that for the second consecutive year, the head of supermarket group Jerónimo Martins, Pedro Soares dos Santos, heads the list of CEOs who earn the most in relation to the average earnings of their staff at 130 times average salary.

Energy company, EDP, has the highest paid manager in the country, António Mexia, who earned over €2 million, 49.5 times the average pay of his workers which is an impressive €40,000 per year.

José Mourinho accused of €3.3m income tax fraud in Spain

The economic crimes section of the Madrid prosecutor's office has filed a complaint against Mourinho for allegedly defrauding the Spanish state of €3.3 million.

Killer whales spotted off Galé beach

"We know that at least twice a year orcas pass along the Algarve coast, following the tuna migration routes," said marine biologist Tiago Sá from Dreamwave which organises the whale watching trips.

The incident occurred at 2.30 p.m. on Monday,June 19th as the pilots of the Boeing 737-800 realised that a drone was flying alongside as the plane approached Lisbon airport in an area that also is used for landing and take-off from Cascais aerodrome.

Four drownings on a blisteringly hot Algarve weekend

A 48-year-old man drowned and died at Praia do Farol beach on the Ria Formosa island of Culatra and a 76-year-old man was found unconscious in a residential pool in the Tavira area and taken to hospital in critical condition.

Fireman and French citizen confirmed dead in Pedrógão Grande fire

fireAs the grim task of identifying the charred bodies left in the path of the Pedrógão Grande fire continues as news has been released that one of the injured firemen has died in hospital.

According to the president of the fire service, Jaime Marta Soares, the 63rd victim is a 30-year-old firefighter from Castanheira de Pêra who had been hospitalised in Coimbra on Sunday with serious burns.
