RC Estoi Palace (RCEPI) held a membership evening for possible new members at About Wine in Faro on the 26th of April. 9 guests attended the evening accompanied by their sponsoring Rotarians. The evening was hosted by RCEPI Honorary Member, Luis Figueiro owner of About Wine - www.aboutwine.pt
A Gala Dinner was held at the Conrad Algarve on Wednesday to celebrate the efforts of the students and staff of Escola EB 2/3 Dr Antonio de Sousa Agostinho, Almancil and Escola Dra Laura Ayres Quarteira who participated in the 2019 cookery competition sponsored by Almancil International Rotary Club (AIRC) and the Conrad Algarve Hotel.
The pretty village of Querenca is always a popular place for a coffee break and the Algarve Senior Bikers always get a nice welcome from Rosa, who has the the café facing the church in the village centre.
March 17th is the feast day of Saint Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland. On Saturday 16th the St. Patrick’s Society of the Algarve held a dinner dance at the Pestana Viking hotel in Armaçao de Pera to celebrate the occasion.
The event was widely acclaimed as a great success with 82 members and guests attending the party. This number well exceeded the last few years and would indicate a current resurgence of interest in the society and its activities, no doubt due to the sterling efforts of the Committee of Neil Rodgers, Teresa Ferreira and Mary Vaughan.
Estoi Palace International Rotary Club (RCEPI) was delighted to receive a visit from Ilda Braz of RC Ponta Delgada, Açores our Rotary International District Governor (DG). This is an opportunity for the Club to show the DG work that has been done in the local community and internationally. During the visit the DG gave the Club a Certificate of Merit for the funds donated to the End Polio Now campaign, following a successful sponsored bike ride last November.
Twenty six members turned up for the latest rideout on a clear and sunny day reaching 19 c. There were 2 groups led by Ulf Kollbratt and Stan Green ably assisted by Bob Chesters and Claus Aabo, who stood in for Fritz Norrgard who was unwell.
On Friday the 8th February, 40 members and guests of the St.Patrick's Society of the Algarve, gathered at Balaia golf village in Albufeira for the Society's annual putting competition.
This year three players finished the course with the same score of 35 strokes each.
The Saint Andrew’s Society of the Algarve duly held their Burns Supper at the Ponte Romana restaurant in Silves on Saturday 26 January. The Supper was a resounding success with over 130 participants.
As usual, bagpiper Malcolm MacGillivray got the evening off to a scintillating start by welcoming guests into the restaurant. Guests enjoyed a glass or two of excellent bubbly arranged by Joaquim Tinoco of Catuna & Silva. The restaurant, which has had a very welcome makeover, has been used for this event for many years and is now well practised in preparing and serving the traditional Macsween haggis, tatties and neeps.
