Seven students from Escola Secundaria Laura Ayres in Quarteira enthralled a packed meeting of Almancil International Rotary Club (AIRC) held at the Conrad Hotel on Wednesday with their presentations on student summer camps they attended over the school holidays.
Blue skies and warm sunshine between the showers was the order of the day for the 38 riders of the ASB when they visited the railway town of Tunes for lunch at the aptly named Restaurant "Between the Lines".
The ride was organised by Errol Buckton who was unable to lead the ride due to having had an operation recently.
Sadly, Pete Duffell lost his long battle with cancer recently and will long be remembered by his ASB fellow bikers, and was and always will be an inspiration to us all.
Pete's wife, Rosalinde, rode out with the ASB's on October 14th on a memorial ride in the hills near Sao Marcos de Serra.
The President of the Rotary Club of Cork, Ireland Mary O'Shea, a frequent visitor to The Algarve is always a welcome guest at Almancil International Rotary Club's (AIRC) meetings. When earlier this year Mary invited members to attend the Rotary Club of Ireland's District Conference, members, including AIRC President Uschi Kuhn together with AIRC members Dorothy & John Slatter, Alice Krings, Madeline Maher and Claire Busbridge immediately began making plans for the trip.
On Thursday 10th September the members of the ASB rode through the mountains towards the Alentejo before returning to the Faro Beach for lunch.
During the morning organiser Mike Sanders took the group on a lovely ride through the hills from Boliqueime via Malhão to Dogueno for a coffee break before returning south on the twisty road to Sao Bras de Alportel, and on down to Faro arriving at the Faro Beach Restaurante "O Paquete" just in time for lunch.
