This 2015 AIRC Student ExchangeAlmancil Rotary Club’s (AIRC) first woman President Uschi Kuhn started her official duties last Sunday at Faro Airport when she sent off Bruna Honrado, the first of the seven students being sent on exchange visits this summer.

First woman President for the AIRCFounded in 2006, Almancil International Rotary Club (AIRC) was the first International Rotary Club in Portugal. Using English as the official language for meetings, the club soon attracted members from all over Europe and beyond.

On Wednesday evening at the Conrad Hotel, the club welcomed its first woman President, Uschi Kuhn.

When the Algarveans Experimental Theatre chose Deadly Nightcap, I was expecting the typical whodunit - with respectable, middle-class people getting themselves involved in murder and trying to wriggle out of their seemingly inextricable plight.

5th Anniversary Ride and Lunch for ASBThe motorcycle riders of the Algarve Senior Bikers celebrated the 5th year of the group's existence with a special ride and lunch at Restaurant O Encontro at the Carvoeiro Tennis Club.

The members of the group, which was founded in 2010 by David Shirley, met in Silves for a ride through the hills around the Odalouca Dam north of Silves. David led the ride with assistance of Steve Wills and finished at the tennis club for a lovely lunch on the outside terrace of O Encontro, which was finished off with the coffee and superb cakes made by David's wife Dee.

First National Crime Prevention Website launched in Portugal

Safe Communities PortugalWith the support of Portugal’s law enforcement agencies, Safe Communities Portugal (SCP) is pleased to announce the launch, on 4th June 2015, of the first national crime prevention website in Portugal. This builds upon the success of the association’s Safe Communities Algarve’s (SCA) website, which was original launched in November 2011, and is now visited in 26 countries and in May received 230,000 hits and 1700 daily page visits.

Rotary Club Estoi Palace visits Lisbon Parliament

Rotary members on the Grand Staircase in the Parliament buildingMembers of Rotary Club Estoi Palace International had the great privilege of visiting the Portuguese Parliament in Lisbon on 4 June as guests of our local Member of Parliament for Faro, Cristóvão Norte. The Palácio de São Bento, Saint Benedict's Palace, is the home of the Assembly of the Republic.

The club members travelled by coach to Lisbon and on arrival were met on the steps of the Parliament complex by Cristóvão.

'Open Coffee Alentejo' kickstart the entrepreneurial community

'Open Coffee Alentejo' In the past 4 months the Open Coffee Alentejo movement connected with numerous startups, businesses people, enablers and experts from all over Alentejo and from a very wide range of markets and disciplines. We are working to build and stimulate the Alentejo startup / entrepreneurial community. So far we have met in Sines (twice), Évora, V.N. Santo Andre and Santiago do Cacém. On the 18th of June we will be in V.N. Milfontes for the first time.
